About us
Meet the passionate geospatial experts behind Academy Geomatics. We deliver precise surveys with real-world insight. Learn more about our leadership team.
We support energy network operators, renewable energy developers, asset managers, engineering consultancies, designers and more with our energy survey services. From early feasibility and route surveys through to construction setting out, as-built verification and ongoing monitoring, we provide the data you need to keep your project moving.

Energy infrastructure often stretches well beyond a single site. Cable routes, pipelines and access corridors can run across large areas. This makes consistent and accurate survey control essential from one end of a project to the other.
Our topographical surveys capture existing ground conditions, levels, features and infrastructure along proposed routes. Meanwhile, UAV photogrammetry and LiDAR can efficiently survey larger or difficult-to-access areas. We can also provide laser scanning and point clouds where projects call for detailed information around existing structures or assets.
For existing buildings and operational facilities, measured building surveys provide the detailed dimensions needed for design and modification. By combining these techniques, we can provide a reliable survey base for feasibility studies, design and construction.

Buried services can present a major risk on energy projects, especially around established substations and infrastructure corridors where services might have accumulated over many years.
Our PAS 128 utility mapping provides a structured approach to locating and categorising underground utilities. Also, our electromagnetic locating (EML) and Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) can add extra information where service layouts are congested or difficult to establish.
Our work on the Gateshead flyover showcased our ability to investigate complex buried infrastructure within a constrained live environment. Our team combined PAS 128 surveying with GPR to build a clearer picture of what was below ground.
Good utility information gives designers and contractors more confidence when planning routes and construction activity. It can also help identify potential clashes before they become problems on site.

Once construction begins, survey information needs to keep pace with the work. Setting out must be accurate, completed works need checking against the design and long corridors need consistent control throughout.
Our surveyors can provide setting out and as-built surveys to support construction teams from initial works through to verification. We can check installed infrastructure, record completed positions and provide accurate information for project records.
For operational assets and structures where movement or change needs to be tracked, precise monitoring provides repeatable measurements that can identify shifts over time. We can also use volume calculations for earthworks and excavations. This gives your project teams reliable quantities to work from.
This is especially important when it comes to live energy sites, where survey work must fit around permit requirements, safety procedures and ongoing operations. We plan our work carefully to collect the information required without creating unnecessary disruption.

Energy projects bring together designers, engineers, contractors, asset managers and specialist teams, often across a large and complicated site. Each needs accurate information, but they may need it in different formats and at different stages.
Our team brings multiple surveying disciplines together, helping project teams build a clear picture of the site rather than relying on disconnected datasets.
Our role is to understand how the survey data will be used and choose the right combination of techniques around that requirement. We provide clear, auditable information that can feed into design, construction, asset management and future monitoring.
An energy survey can form one part of a much larger project, so we focus on making the information usable at every stage. With experience across infrastructure, corridor and asset surveys, we can support energy projects from initial feasibility through construction and into the ongoing management of assets.
