What are heritage surveys?

Heritage surveys are detailed spatial and condition assessments of archaeological sites, historic buildings, landscapes and features of cultural significance. These surveys support planning applications, conservation efforts and research and development projects where sensitivity to heritage assets is essential.

What do they involve?

  • Topographic and measured building surveys: High-resolution, geospatially accurate assessments of buildings and landscapes using laser scanning, total stations, GNSS and photogrammetry
  • Ground penetrating radar and geophysical surveys: Non-intrusive GPR investigations reveal buried structures, voids and anomalies without excavation, following Historic England’s Geophysical Survey in Archaeological Field Evaluation (2015) guidance for data collection and interpretation
  • Heritage impact assessments and setting analysis: Spatial data and mapping to evaluate how proposed works may affect the significance or setting of a heritage asset
  • Digital mapping and GIS integration: Georeferenced mapping and survey-data integration into CAD, GIS and BIM environments to aid collaborative planning and long-term asset management
