Photogrammetry

We offer advanced aerial and ground photogrammetry for high-resolution 2D/3D geospatial data, providing fast, flexible and non-intrusive capture of architectural and topographic features.

What is photogrammetry?

Photogrammetry is the science of extracting accurate measurements and spatial data from overlapping photographic images. Using specialised software, we reconstruct 3D models and orthophotos from photographs taken at different angles, whether from the ground or the air.

This technology is widely used in surveying, construction, architecture, archaeology and environmental monitoring for its cost-efficiency and high visual clarity.

What does it involve?

Our photogrammetry services employ advanced techniques to generate precise 3D models and spatial data from photographic imagery. We offer two primary approaches, tailored to your project requirements:

  • Airborne photogrammetry (drone surveys): High-resolution cameras paired with precise GNSS capture detailed aerial imagery for topographic modelling, volumetric analysis, inspections, construction monitoring and flood planning. Ideal for large or inaccessible sites and seamless integration with other datasets
  • Ground-based photogrammetry: DSLR or mirrorless cameras (tripod, pole or handheld) acquire high-detail, close-range images of historic buildings, architectural features and artefacts, as well as for structural assessments and digital twin creation

Why choose Academy Geomatics?

Our photogrammetry services deliver accurately georeferenced orthophotos and seamless orthomosaics. We also produce detailed 3D textured meshes and photorealistic models, along with precise Digital Surface Models (DSMs) and Digital Terrain Models (DTMs).

Outputs are supplied in CAD-ready formats, point cloud datasets and BIM-compatible structures. We also provide annotated site plans and comprehensive volume reports. All data processing is carried out using industry-leading software – Agisoft Metashape, Pix4D and RealityCapture – with rigorous QA procedures aligned to RICS, CICES and Historic England guidelines.

Benefit from:

  • CAA-certified drone pilots: Extensive UAV surveying expertise and adherence to aviation regulations
  • Accurate ground control: GNSS-supported workflows with well-distributed ground control points (GCPs)
  • Close-range photography: High-detail imagery for heritage and architectural documentation
  • Flexible outputs: Tailored deliverables for engineering, design, conservation and planning applications
  • Service integration: Seamless combination with laser scanning, GPR and topographic surveys
