Volume Calculations

We offer accurate volume calculations and cut/fill analysis services, providing essential data for cost-effective and efficient earthwork management nationwide.

Volumetric mapping you can rely on

Volumetric calculations are conducted to determine the volume of a 3D object within a specific area. After accurately measuring volumes of earth or materials, land surveyors can calculate cut-and-fill quantities, surface elevations, and net volume balances across all different areas.

Why are they important?

Accurate volume calculations are ideal for:

  1. Cost-effective material management
  2. Site safety and risk reduction
  3. Progress tracking

This service greatly reduces the need for manual measurements, especially in hazardous zones, and supports sites in keeping within regulatory compliance.

Best uses of volumetric calculations

Volumetric calculations provide accurate findings about the volume of material and space in a specific area and are used to support:

  • Foundation planning
  • Cut and fill analysis
  • Landfill capacity
  • Erosion management
  • Dredging operations
  • Reservoir capacity

The volumetric reports provided are essential for any industry where moving or measuring bulk material directly impacts timelines and project success.

The data we collect

We provide our findings in multiple different forms depending on what your project needs.

Numerical reports

Volumetric and material quantity reports provide summaries and estimates based on material density.

2D maps and visuals

We use contour maps and cross-sections to see changes in elevation and visualise slopes.

3D digital models

Our Digital Terrain Models (DTM), orthomosaic images and point clouds are produced by incredibly detailed technological scans that deliver the highest intricacy results.

The technology behind the data

We use highly accurate spatial measurement technology to carry out volumetric calculations and confirm detailed information about specific areas of land.

We combine UAV photogrammetry, LiDAR and traditional survey methods, adapting our approach to whatever the conditions are on-site.

We also employ laser scanning and point clouds, GNSS, total stations and bathymetric sonar.

Our best practice workflow includes baseline and follow-up surveys, surface-to-surface comparisons and cut-and-fill reporting, which deliver isopachyte maps and detailed digital reports with full QA/QC.

Sectors that rely on us for volumetric calculations

Our volumetric calculation services have supported successful projects across multiple sectors:

Construction

Often dealing with large piles of aggregate and gravel, construction sites need precise answers to the amount of materials they need before a project starts.

Environment

Volumetric calculations play a huge role in supporting environmental projects such as river restoration and polluted soil excavation.

Water

To maintain safety and efficiency during water projects, volumetric calculations can provide answers and information for reservoir storage capacity, sediment tracking, floodplain mapping, and retention basin sizing.
