Topographical Surveys

We deliver accurate and detailed topographical surveys, utilising advanced techniques and adhering to best practices, to provide essential data for planning, design and construction projects.

What is a topographical survey?

A topographical (topo) survey meticulously maps a site’s physical characteristics and elevations, detailing ground contours, spot heights, buildings, structures, boundaries, roads, utilities, vegetation and water features. Each survey is customised to meet specific project requirements, from architectural planning to civil engineering design and asset management.

Who we work with

We deliver accurate, detailed topographical surveys to support planning, design and construction across a wide range of sectors, including:

  • Architects and urban designers
  • Civil and structural engineers
  • Local authorities and utility providers
  • Highways, rail and infrastructure planners
  • Developers and construction managers

Accurate topographical data begins with robust survey control. We follow industry best practice guidance (RICS, TSA and PAS 128) to ensure our control frameworks are precise, repeatable and fit for purpose. Our methodology includes primary control establishment, high-precision instrument integration, redundancy checks and thorough documentation.

Our survey outputs

Our topographical surveys are scalable to accommodate projects ranging from small development plots to major infrastructure corridors. We deliver data in versatile formats – 2D, 3D, CAD, GIS or BIM – and, for large or complex terrain, offer UAV/drone integration. Surveys can include utility overlays and PAS 128 subsurface integration. Detailed reporting, audit trails and metadata are provided as standard, and we ensure rapid mobilisation across the UK. We offer:

  • 2D CAD plans: DWG, DXF and PDF
  • 3D terrain and surface models: Digital surface models (DSM) and terrain meshes
  • Contour plans and sections
  • Georeferenced raster imagery and orthophotos
  • GIS deliverables: Shapefiles and spatial databases
  • BIM-ready outputs: Revit, IFC and Navisworks integration

From small plots to complex corridors, our surveys provide a reliable foundation for confident design coordination.
